Experience & Background
Born in Sao Paulo Brazil, Debora speaks Portuguese and French. She started as an associate with another firm. She then founded her own firm in Bowie Maryland, which grew successfully to several branches in 21 years. She then merged as with another firm, and is now a partner at Price Benowitz.
Debora has built a life believing that giving back is an obligation. She has served in the following positions:
President and Founder, Bowie Rotary, President of the Sister States Board under the Maryland Secretary of State, Executive Board Member and Chair of the Committee on Directors of the University System of Maryland Foundation Board, appointed Member of the Maryland Senate-House Oversight Committee on Insurance and Workers Compensation Benefits, MSBA Judicial Nominating Committee, New Admittee Mentorship Committee, Chair of the Prince Georges County Bar Association Workers Compensation Section, Inducted Member of the ABA College of Workers Compensation, Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, Endowed a scholarship named SomeOneCares at UMBC, and a supporter of the Grael Project – a school for children of Niteroi Brazil.
Academics, published, and speaker, Debora is the Co-Editor of the Maryland Automobile Accident Deskbook third edition published by the MSBA; panelist on “Ethics and Workers’ Compensation”, for Medstar NRH; and presenter on “Closed Head Injuries and Claims” at the 30th anniversary conference of the Brain Injury Association of Maryland. She was a requested contributor to the ABA book “The Road to Independence”, a tribute to women lawyers who started their own law firms in the 1980’s in the United States.
When not engaged in the practice of law, Debora earned her private pilot license and flew Piper Warriors. She is an accomplished novelist under the pen name Leah Kelly for children and adults. Her most recent project, with graduates of UMBC, is the launch of Amron Home and Health LLC, a new venture with a mission to bring greater awareness to the risks of untreated sleep apnea and to provide comfort products to CPAP users worldwide. Her two sons were raised in her hometown of Annapolis, Maryland.
