Fatima <span>Gomez Ladron de Guevara</span>
As part of her role at the immigration practice at Price Benowitz, Fatima submits consular applications for nonimmigrant and immigrant visas for clients located overseas. Most of these applications are for spouses and fiancés of U.S Citizens. She also prepares Asylum applications for foreign nationals and Naturalization submissions for clients that have become U.S. Permanent Residents and meet the requirements.
Barred in the Madrid Bar Association, Fatima was born and raised in the southeast of Spain. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws with an emphasis in European Union Law at Universidad San Pablo CEU in Madrid. After graduating, Fatima worked as a legal intern in Medina Cuadros Abogados in Madrid, where she was part of the Family and Criminal Law Department. During her internship, she provided litigation support for witness interviews, deposition preparation, and identification line-ups. Fatima then went to Paris to obtain her specialization in Economic and Legal Studies of the European Union in Paris 1-Panthéon Sorbonne. Before moving to the U.S., she completed an internship at Intecmin SL in the Human Resources and Labor Law Department, where she oversaw the review and drafting of the enterprise-wide policy regarding employee regulations for senior management.
Fatima moved to the U.S. to complete her studies and obtained her LL.M in International Law, with a concentration in Business and Trade, at American University’s Washington College of Law. During her LL.M. she was a fellow in the Academy of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at the Washington College of Law. She also designed promotional material and helped coordinate different outreach initiatives for the Human Rights Moot Court Competition.
After Fatima and her team were trained by arbitration attorneys at Dechert LLP, she participated in the Fifth International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition, where her team was a semifinalist. Fatima also completed an internship at Mil Mujeres INC, an immigration non-profit, where she was later hired. Here, she had the opportunity of providing legal support to clients from Latin America and Eastern Europe that were forced from home by conflict, persecution, and violence. She was able to assist immigrants and victims of crimes in their applications for Adjustment of Status, U-Visa, DACA, VAWA, Family-Based Petition, Humanitarian Parole, and Asylum.
After law school, she was hired at Mil Mujeres INC, where she started as a paralegal preparing nonimmigrant and immigrant visa filings to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. Fatima was then promoted to Community Service Manager. This allowed her to interact with embassies and law enforcement agencies. During her time, designed Mil Mujeres project initiatives, guidelines, and implementation strategies to identify local populations in need of pro-bono legal aid.
